Modern Athletic Yoga & Lifestyle

Amanda Maclaren Yoga

Hi I’m Amanda. I am passionate about sharing the joys & benefits of yoga. Helping you to build a strong and healthy practice.

Hey Yogi

Welcome to Amanda Maclaren Yoga. I’m delighted you’re here, thank you for taking the time to look at my website. Yoga has been a subtle changing force for the better in my life over the past few years. I started practicing yoga in 2014 with the soul intention to heal a running injury and stretch out my tight runner’s hips and legs. I saw yoga as an exercise that would help me physically feel better in my body. But slowly yoga worked its magic on me and before I knew it, I was craving time on my mat for the calming and centring aspects.

Through yoga I feel stronger, happier, more connected to myself and what brings equilibrium into my life. I have seen a huge shift in my stress levels and the way I handle situations, that in the past would have been challenging for me. Which, is testament to the power of yoga helping you find your authentic self.

My Running Yoga Journey

My predominant sporting activity of choice throughout my life has always been running. From the day I laced up my shoes and raced for my school cross country team my love affair with running began. Soon after starting to race for my school team I joined Middlesbrough and Cleveland Harriers. Some of the best memories of my teenage years are with my running club and the strong running friendships I forged there. There is nothing quite like the love and support of a running club to motivate you to run your best.

It wasn’t smart or wise, but for many of those early years I neglected any form of deep, active recovery. And because my body was young and supple at the time it could handle my lack of discipline regarding the recovery aspects of run training. But eventually this, as well as ignoring the signs my body was giving me, caught up with me and I ended up with a pretty bad piriformus injury. And under my physiotherapists guidance I was out of running action for a whole year. Luckily, I had found yoga at that time which helped me cope with losing a large part of myself in so many ways.

Yoga brought me into a deeper awareness of my body and now I pick up on niggles and potential imbalances much sooner. And has helped develop in me a respect for my body, where I no longer blindly ignore the signals it is sending me.

In my classes you will experience a modern athletic style of Hatha Vinyasa yoga that is perfect for runners and physically active individuals. As well as, incorporating aspects of active recovery and restorative yoga practices. Recovery is just as important when balancing building strength and endurance. My style of teaching will see you build full body strength, coordination, flexibility, mobility and endurance. Whilst helping to ground you from the day to day stresses with a safe space to let them all go.
